We are someplace else. We flew to Portland, Maine on Thursday. The plane was crowded, even if everyone wore masks. We are conditioned at this point to be concerned in crowds. As well we should be.
The hot weather followed us. The cool weather arrived last night. I read that it was jacket weather in Iowa City yesterday. But it still has not rained. I think it is just as well that I do not experience the garden right now. A neighbor is turning on the sprinkler and moving it around. But there are places that the sprinkler does not reach.
I look forward to September, with cooler weather and some rain.
Before we left there was this cactus display on Monday.
Calla lilies are certainly on the more list for next year. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have like 20 of these shown in the next picture at the same time? Wholesale is the future. But where does one get calla lilies wholesale? I have found one source. The yellow ones are available with a minimum of 8. Others are available only if you get a minimum of 80. 80?! It would probably have to be a group purchase. $4 each for hot pink or white.
This was from this week.
Julia's recipe
Actually Julia has the week off.
These pictures of cooking are posted to let you know she is still busy. Yesterday was Maisie's first birthday. One year ago yesterday we got power back on after the derecho and Maisie was born.
Christopher got to tell us what Maisie would like for her birthday. It just happened to be chocolate covered cupcakes.
Odds and ends
Portland has a farmer's market on Saturday morning, just like Iowa City. Maybe about as many vendors.
I am discovering that ragweed goes from coast to coast.
Let us resolve to get rid of these politicians that don't believe in science.
I really did not want to give Delta to my grandchildren because the Iowa Governor does not care.
Stay cool.
